Freudenberg will add 3000 tons of capacity to its Evolon microfilament production in Colmar, France. Construction on the expansion has already begun and should be completed by October 2013. The company is reporting the investment at €5 million.

Evolon is manufactured through a globally patented technology combining the spinning of filaments with splitting through hydroentanglement. The result is microfilaments produced through a unique technology, which are particularly soft, supple and light as well as durable. As a result, Evolon is an ideal product for numerous applications including high tech cleaning cloths, automotives and, most recently, medical items.

The new production line will open up new dimensions for the fabric and bring greater flexiiblity—not just in capacity expansion but also in a greater range of product combinations.

“Once the new production line is complete, we will combine various base materials and create new products through hydroentanglement,” says Ulrich Jahn, plant manager at Colmar.

Freudenberg first introduced Evolon in the late 1990s.
